Everything in Ireland Tastes Like Poop

You'd really think it was impossible to f up cup of noodles, but the people at "KING POT NOODLE" have done it.

That being said, I'm going to lose ten pounds without even trying during my story... a combination of no nourishment and walking everywhere oughta do it.

Last night my roommates and I went to King's Head Pub. We got there when the Italy Ukraine world cup game was still going on, so we stood in sweaty beer bellies for a couple minutes before getting served. Then we sat down and made fun of people. It's funny how culture borders leave room for the universal drunkenness. Drunken bachelorette parties here are called "hen parties" and "being drunk" for the guys here is called, "flirting." It's nice to know that even on this side of the pond, drunk guys still tell me I look like Jennifer Aniston.

After King's Head, we walked around before going to a couple other bars that I don't remember the names of and not because I was intoxicated as I only had two, but because they were written in Gaelic. We did hear some traditional irish music and when some guy laughed at me when I ordered at one place, I turned to him and said, "why are you laughing at me? That's not very nice." Then he talked to us for two hours... he talked and we listened. he talked about Weezer and asked if we were from California. I said yes and continued a bold face lie of a tale for the next twenty minutes.

We also awkwardly kept sighting our professors. One in a tryst with a man we believe she met that night, and we kept running away giggling like ten year olds.

We ended the night at an American style all night diner that was obviously a rip off of Jonny Rockets called "Eddie Rockets" except it was run by Koreans. So weird but the chicken tenders were fantastic and it was the best meal I've had since eating here. My roommates and I have decided that we're going to start making dinners for eachother. I've offered up my speciality, which has meat it in like all good food should. But one of my roommates is a vegan. and I told her I wasn't going to alter my recipe for her weird, vegan-ness and she accepted that fact quite nicely.

After being up till two am, we got up at 7 and headed into town for the farmer's market. We went to the wrong place at first, shocker, but then I bought some bread to eat. And it was actually fantastic. After the market we caught an early bus to The Cliffs of Moher. On the bus, I got awful motion sickness and threw up in my mouth. The buses are so bumpy, but the views were spectacular. I think we drove past shrek's cottage a couple of times. We went through all these great towns throughout the burrens. If you don't know, the Burrens are a region on the south/west cost of Ireland where they are many midevil stone walls and caves and castles. Very spooky almost. Like "The Goonies"

The cliffs were pretty and huge and I took alot of pictures that will bore people, but some fun ones. Like the one shown here.

My favorite thing about Galway, and for all of Ireland for that matter... if I may be an English geek for a second, is how everything has a story. In Galway, you can walk around and find where James Joyce stayed with his wife, where his wife was born and raised, and where Joyce got inspiration for his stories.

Class will become alot more interesting next week because every other day we have a famous irish writer who comes in and lectures and reads. I've heard it's so great because it's a small group of people. I am really glad that the program understands the importance of giving us time to explore and get lost around the city and beyond. Because if we were just going to get lectured and write papers, we could do that anywhere. (We'll do the lecturing and writing too, it's actually quite overwelming because we meet everyday from 10:30-5 with a break for lunch)

There are two things that have escaped my grasp today:
1) finding ice cream
2) finding the ocean

no joke. We've walked this city several times and keep getting lost before finding the ocean. It shouldn't be hard if you look at a map of Galway, but I figure we have a month to find a large body of water called the Atlantic. Wish us luck.

Have a good weekend!
