Discover Card Woes
I'll ignore the most obvious issue I have with my one credit card from Discover: the balance. That is a subject for an entirely different rant and blame my outstanding balance on my job I had for three years... a job, that as each year came and went, my salary and benefits got lower and worse. Conversely, my rent increased. And also, my dad died. I had to cxomfort myself alot with material things. It's not my fault. So there you have it.
I'll also ignore for the moment the ridiculous issue of the Miles system of my Discover card. At first I thought I'd get miles not only for spending, but for paying it off, or just for making payments... as an incentive for decreasing your balance. But of course not! Of course they don't want you to pay of your bill! Stupid Mandy, they want you to keep increasing your balance with off the charts interests rates. So, after spending about 1,000 in the last couple months, includying my flight to Ireland and various other things, I've gained about 200 measely points.
I really want a coach purse, but I am still about 800 pts away. So here's what I've decided to do. In addition to concentrating on paying off my balance. And yes, I am doing a fine job of paying them off, ever so slowly, with my student refund check. I know, it's ironic. But I took out the same amount of money this year in loans, even though my courses are paid for so I can pay off my credit cards. The interest rates are lower for student loans and it looks better for your credit history. So I'm going to start using my credit card more to earn points then just making large payments to cover my charges and additional payoff monthly. I know this sounds like a trap, and what gets alot of people into credit card messes. But not me. I swear. I swear to you all. I'm going to stick it to the man!
Ok, so I'm ignoring that, too. Right. I forgot
So here's where we get to the main topic of my rant. Discover's communication skills are retarded. Prior to moving, I did a responsible job of informing all of my change of address. This included many of my accounts for school, work, etc. I tried to change it on Discover online, and did in fact. I also went out of my way to send in the mail a check payment with the change of address, even though I usually just make my payment online. But it still didn't go through. It turns out that the office where your payment goes doesn't handle address changes. So why have it on the back of the bill payment receipt? What a bunch of idiots.
So, finally I signed up for paperless statements online, since I already do online bill pay, in addition to changing my address online. That way, I figured that even if they still had my address wrong, it didn't matter. Sounds like a good idea, right? Well, this past month, I did indeed get a paperless statement via email. But here's what I also got: a change of address verification, another change of address verification to warn against fraud (thanks), and a verification of sign up for paperless statement... ALL IN THE MAIL!!!! I got a paperless verification statement in the mail!!!!!!!!!! IRONIC, maybe? Yes, indeed.
But at least they got my address right!
